The right temperament to be a home
In Milan, a former carpenter’s workshop converted into a loft thanks to a strict conversion project of volumes and spaces.
From working space, where time was marked by the rhythmic hammer beat on heated iron, to the warm atmosphere given by white tones used for a new space full of light. An ideal living context in a still authentic post-industrial Milan able to surprise. The conversion project totally redesigned the spaces, yet paying attention to preserve the true essence of this former carpenter’s workshop. This is the aim of the designer choice: to keep prospective views unchanged to the possible extent and to create the kitchen area by using huge transparent sliding doors where the mould was once lodged. The sliding door system is also largely used to divide the different spaces without waiving the hallways which distinguished the original volumes. The bedroom was redesigned to capture as much light as possible from a large skylight: the closet is closed by mirrors and walls are decorated with optical patterns. It’s worth noticing that the bathroom door totally disappears once closed.
